CPSC 441: Computer Communications

Professor Carey Williamson

Winter 2013

Grading Information

Student evaluation in CPSC 441 will be based on four course components: assignments (24%), quiz (6%), midterm exam (20%), and final exam (50%).

CPSC 441 will have four assignments. In aggregate, the assignments count 24% toward your final grade. All assignments will be equally weighted (6% each), even though they are not all of equal difficulty. Most of the assignments will be C/C++ programming assignments. There will be one assignment due about every 3 weeks, with the first one due in early February. There will also be a slight gap in the assignments around the time of the midterm exam.

A short 30-minute written quiz on networking concepts/definitions and application-layer protocols will take place in class on Friday, February 1, 2013. The quiz will be administered by your TAs, and will count 6% toward your final grade.

The 50-minute midterm exam will take place in class on Friday, March 8, 2013. The midterm exam will count 20% toward your final grade.

The 2-hour final exam will take place in late April, on Monday, April 29 at 8:00am in ST 135. The final exam will count 50% toward your final grade.

Grading Scheme

Each of the foregoing components will be given a numerical score, using a percentage scale. The final percentage grade will be calculated using the weights indicated above, and then converted to a final letter grade for the University grading system, using the following scale:
