Grading Information
The assessment of students in CPSC 531 will be based on three course components: assignments (40%), midterm exam (20%), and final exam (40%).
CPSC 531 will have four assignments. In aggregate, the assignments count 40% toward your final grade. All assignments will be equally weighted (10% each), even though they are not all of equal difficulty. Most of the assignments will be programming assignments in C, C++, or Java (your choice). There will be one assignment due about every 3 weeks, with the first one due in late September. There will also be a slight gap in the assignment scheduling around the time of the midterm exam.
The 60-minute midterm exam (closed book) will take place in class on Thursday, October 26, 2017. The midterm exam will count 20% toward your final grade.
The 2-hour final exam (closed book) will take place in MS 211 at 3:30pm on Thursday, December 21, 2017. The final exam will count 40% toward your final grade.
Grading Scheme
Each of the foregoing components will be given a numerical score, using a percentage scale. The final percentage grade will be calculated using the weights indicated above, and then converted to a final letter grade for the University grading system, using the following scale:

- >= 88% A
- >= 84% A-
- >= 80% B+
