CPSC 601.08: Computer Systems Performance Evaluation

Professor Carey Williamson

Winter 2010

Assignments

CPSC 601.08 will have three equally-weighted assignments, with one associated with each module of the course (i.e., analytical methods, simulation methods, and experimental methods). Each assignment will be graded on a percentage scale. Assignments are to be done individually. In aggregate, the assignments count 30% toward your final grade.

Some possible ideas for assignments are: mathematical analysis of link-based ranking schemes; TCP throughput analysis; simulation evaluation of Web server scheduling strategies; simulation evaluation of Web proxy caching policies; workload characterization of a Unix file system; and benchmarking TCP performance in a wireless LAN.

Completed assignments are to be submitted in hardcopy form to your instructor on or before 3:30pm on the stated deadline date. Assignments will be graded and returned to you within one week.
