CPSC 641: Performance Issues in High Speed Networks

Professor Carey Williamson

January 2009

Grading Information

Student evaluation in CPSC 641 will be based on three course components: assignments (30%), presentation (20%), and course project (50%).

Assignments (30%)

There will be two equally-weighted assignments in this course, given early in the semester. Assignments may involve some programming and/or use of software tools for data analysis or network simulation. Students are expected to complete assignments individually. Plagiarism will not be tolerated.

Class Presentation (20%)

Each student will be required to give one in-class presentation of a suitable paper selected from the networking literature. Paper presentations will take place in mid-to-late March and early April.

Course Project (50%)

Each student will be required to conduct an individual course project, and submit a 12-15 page research paper by April 16 summarizing their project work.

Grading Scheme

Each of the course components will be given a numerical score, using a percentage scale. The final percentage grade will be calculated using the weights indicated above, and then converted to a final letter grade for the University grading system.

The following approximate scale will be used. Percentage scores at or above 94% will receive an A+, while those at or above 88% will receive an A, and those at or above 82% will receive an A-. Percentage scores at or above 78% will receive a B+, while those at or above 74% will receive a B, and those at or above 70% will receive a B-. Percentage scores below 70% will receive an F.
