CPSC 641: Performance Issues in High Speed Networks

Professor Carey Williamson

Winter 2022

Assignments

CPSC 641 will have two equally-weighted assignments. Each assignment will be graded on a percentage scale. In aggregate, the assignments count 30% toward your final grade in CPSC 641.

Assignments are to be done individually. The assignments will take place in the first half of the course, to provide experience with networking research methods, and to avoid interfering with class presentations or course projects.

Completed assignments are to be submitted in hardcopy form to your instructor on or before the stated deadline. Assignments will be graded and returned to you within one week.

Assignment 1: Spotify Traffic Analysis (30 marks)

Assignment 1 will involve writing some programs or scripts to process some empirical network traffic datasets, and producing some graphs and statistics summarizing the results. It is due Thursday, January 27 at 4:00pm. (This CPSC 503 project shows the main results from the Spotify data analysis)

Assignment 2: COVID Barber Shop (30 marks)

Assignment 2 involves several techniques from computer systems performance evaluation, including mathematical analysis and simulation modeling. It is due Thursday, February 17 at 4:00pm. (Here is my sample solution: analysis and simulation)
