Current Research Staff

During my research chair positions (iCORE and NSERC), I have been fortunate to hire several full-time research staff members within the Networks Research Group. In alphabetical order, these are:

  • Martin Arlitt is a Senior Research Associate whose expertise is Internet traffic measurement. He also works for HP Labs in Palo Alto, CA, and for the Grid Research Centre (GRC) at the University of Calgary.

  • Jennifer Harper is the Research Program Manager and administrative support person for the Networks Research Group. She started this position in September 2009.

Former Research Staff

Several other individuals have been a vital part of my iCORE research team over the past decade:

  • Guangwei Bai was a Research Associate with expertise in network traffic measurement and Internet traffic modeling.

  • Niklas Carlsson was a Research Associate with expertise in media streaming, P2P networks, network simulation, and analytic modeling. He is currently an Assistant Professor at Linkopping University in Sweden, and an ongoing research collaborator.

  • Emir Halepovic was a Post-Doctoral Fellow (PDF) in my group for one year (2010-2011), following the completion of his Ph.D. at the University of Calgary. His expertise was Redundant Traffic Elimination (RTE) in wireless networks. He was co-supervised by Majid Ghaderi.

  • Gwen Houtzager was a Network/System Administrator for the ELISA networks lab. Previously, she did her M.Sc. on simulation and modeling of optimal Web proxy cache placement.

  • Tianbo Kuang was a Research Associate with expertise in video coding, wireless networks, MAC protocols, and Internet traffic measurement.

  • Jingxiang Luo was a Research Associate with expertise in queueing theory, optimization, Markov modeling, and cellular network modeling.

  • Aniket Mahanti was a Research Associate with expertise in wireless network measurement and workload characterization. He previously completed his MSc at the University of Calgary in 2006. He is now a Ph.D. student in the group.

  • Nayden Markatchev was a Network/System Administrator for the ELISA lab for 3 years. He was also a contributor to research on network simulation and network traffic modeling. He recently completed an M.Sc. in Grid Computing, working with Rob Simmonds, and is now a technical staff member with the Grid Research Centre.

  • Maxim Podlesny was a Post-Doctoral Fellow (PDF) in my group from 2009-2011, with expertise in TCP, routing, and ns-2 network simulation.

  • Terence Robinson was a Network/System Administrator for the ELISA networks lab, from 2007 to 2011.

  • Ashikur Rahman was a Post-Doctoral Fellow (PDF) in my group for one year, from 2010 to 2011. His expertise is wireless ad hoc networks.

  • Hanan Shpungin was a Post-Doctoral Fellow (PDF) with expertise in the design and analysis of wireless ad hoc networks. He joined the group in October 2009 and stayed for 2 years. He was co-supervised by Zongpeng Li.

  • Hongxia Sun was a Research Associate with expertise in wireless/cellular networks, CDMA systems, and mathematical modeling. She was part of my team for the NSERC/iCORE/TELUS Mobility Industrial Research Chair (IRC) on Wireless Internet Traffic Modeling from 2002 to 2008.

  • Nathan Wormsbecker was an assistant Network/System Administrator for the ELISA lab during Summer 2005, and for the year leading up to WWW2007.

  • Qian Wu was a Research Associate whose expertise includes network simulation, TCP/IP protocol performance, wireless MAC protocols, and ns-2.

  • Yujing Wu was a Research Associate with expertise includes wireless/cellular networks, CDMA systems, queueing theory, and fluid-based network simulation.
