Cerdic's childhood was plagued with disease. Every contagion that went through the dwarven town seemed to seek out and strike the young dwarven lad. There is hardly a memory of his youth when he was not stricken with illness.

The young dwarf survived the hardship, and his immune system is proof of this. The constant barrage against his body took its toll, however, resulting in stunted growth and lower body weight than others of his kin, as well as an aged look in both eyes and hair.

The other benefit of all his bedrest -- if it can be called that -- was the manifestation of his psionic powers. When the first glimmer of power appeared in his mind, Cerdic focused and pushed with all his will that the power conquer the disease within him. This single-minded drive towards curative and body-affecting mental power steered the sickling to the path of the Savant.

Though rarely stricken with illness now that he is in his young adulthood, his reputation is well-known back home, and attitudes towards him range from silent pity to outright scorn and ridicule. Cerdic has left his home with hurt feelings but no animosity; he seeks to make something of himself in the world that had tried to unmake him for so long, and perhaps return home with tales of glory.
