Below we see my Treasure Hunter (Worker IM Crwth -- he was originally meant to be just a grunt character to do menial work in the game, but ended up being my most-played character, and you can't rename the characters!) standing with Belatu-Cadros, Jon's carefree fighter (Belatu never cared if he died, and would often fight bare-chested with the most obscure weapons).

This is the road north of Trinsic, where Juo'nar's army was supposed to pass. The fires weren't a normal feature of the area, so we stopped to investigate.

Worker IM Crwth (or just Worker), wasn't really a combatant -- he was a blacksmith, a mage, and a treasure hunter, but really wasn't meant to be part of the battle -- he just brought people to them, healed and resurrected them, and caused them (treasure chests often spawned baddies). Nix, however, was a Paladin, upholding justice and all that nonsense. He wore gold armor (crafted by Worker), and didn't believe in all that magic stuff. Steel was his way, and honor his guide. It was Nix that aimed to defeat the evil of Juo'nar, bare-handed if need be.

Below we see Nix standing outside the north gate of Trinsic with many other warriors. Above him on the screen is Belatu-Cadros, ever-ready to kick some butt. Rumor had it that Juo'nar would arrive at Trinsic that night, and the heroes were ready.

Or so they thought.

This is a little later on, from Belatu's point of view. The heroes of the land made a solid wall to prevent any of Juo'nar's minions from getting inside the city. The citizens would be no match for the undead hordes!

Like Nix, Bela was a Grandmaster Healer, which meant that with but a single bandage, he could resurrect the dead. Of course, Bela had to be different, so he used black cloth and black bandages instead of the uncolored grey that most would use. You can see them in his backpack, along with a couple of healing potions and poison cures.

We didn't know for sure that Juo'nar wouldn't come from more than one direction, so Worker bravely stood watch at the South gate. I don't know what he was thinking, standing in a potential warzone with a bag full of treasure maps (top left). If he had died with all of those maps on him, it would have been a costly day!

The invasion starts. Undead start appearing at the North gate, and Worker teleports himself there to join in. While he's not a true combatant, he is deft with a crwth (that's a lute, by the way); he is able to provoke creatures to attack one another, thereby keeping them distracted from the other heroes. Here Worker succeeds in making two skeleton warriors fight each other, while the braver heroes take on the rest. Near the bottom of the screen you can see a ghost-like figure; that is a fallen hero, haunting the battlefield (and perhaps looking for someone to resurrect him). He won't be the last ghost this evening. You can also see in the chat box on the bottom that our guild (the Schadenfreude Coven, or SFC) is mobilizing to help out. Again, Worker is a fool to stand about with a bag of maps like this, especially with the enormous lag encountered with so many moving objects on the screen.

The battle gets heavy, but the undead bodies seem to outnumber the heroes'. Worker has found a horse, so he can escape a little easier. He's in the middle of it all, resurrecting fallen warriors.

To his right you can see his guildmates, Alessandre (on a horse, red skirt, grey hat), and Belatu-Cadros (above her, in all grey, facing away). If you look on the right, you can see Worker's wearing a skull mask, perhaps to make the undead think he's one of them?

Later in the battle. You can see Belatu calmly standing in the middle of a sea of bodies. To his left, a dragon attacks a group of heroes while Belatu loots his fallen brothers-in-arms. Hey, I never said he was a hero! I think Nix may have actually fallen just before this.

Things get worse. Juo'nar herself appears! I'm pretty sure Juo'nar was female, anyway; it was a few years ago. You can see that Jon had Juo'nar's stat window pulled up, which showed she had taken no damage from the warriors. You can barely make out Juo'nar: she's the greenish figure to the right of center, right in the middle of the group of heroes. I believe they all died that night. If you compare Belatu's backpack's contents to the previous screenshot, you can see he's been busy looting... a crossbow and a box of who-knows-what. Tsktsk!

Here we see Nix again, resplendent in gold. He's firing at the undead with his crossbow, running around and healing other warriors. At the top of the screen you can see three warriors looking "extremely ill", which means they didn't have much time left. The undead were very adept at poisoning the heroes.

Nix is in the middle of it now, undead all around. He's still using the crossbow, finding it better than approaching the undead and getting poisoned himself. There's a better view of Juo'nar here, up in the top left.

Three minutes later, and Nix is dead. This is the view as a ghost. While we've seen the occasional ghost in the screenshots before, those were only the ones that made themselves visible. When dead, however, you can certainly see more, as all ghosts are visible to you. It looks like a wraith killed Nix. In the top left you can see Juo'nar ranting.

By this time, Juo'nar's forces had breached the gates, and undead were roaming Trinsic. Here we see Nix newly resurrected, wandering the streets of Trinsic without weapons or armor. The yellow skeleton above him is a skeleton captain, and wow were they tough. I believe they were immune -- or nearly so -- to magic, and thus had to be pummeled physically. This wasn't a task for a lone warrior, though, because they hit hard and fast. Even in the confines of Trinsic, we see dead bodies, unfortunately more warriors and horses than undead.

Nix has now run back out the North Gate and collected his belongings from his corpse. His horse is beyond saving, so he is reduced to travel by foot. Juo'nar has recruited the aid of ancient dragons in her conquest, and we see on here, named Casiid, slaying defenders left and right. You can see Casiid's stat bar, with only a sliver of damage from the heroes.

Nix continues to seek out the fallen, to raise them from the dead and help bolster Trinsic's defense. Casiid has taken a little more damage, and even Juo'nar just below Nix, has shed some unholy ichor. In response to the question that is being asked, yes, yes it was.

I'm not sure why I switched to Worker at this point. The only thing I can think of is that he had the power to create a magic gate to teleport multiple people away, and he was needed for that. Either that or Nix had fallen and wasn't able to get to a healer, so Worker was sent out to retrieve his things. Where's Belatu in all this? I seem to recall he was being chased down by some defenders for looting.

Worker has been chased into a shop in Trinsic by a zombie. Not the fighting type, he hid behind a counter until this nice fellow Ferleyin came along to save him. While Worker has magic, he doesn't have the skill to make it deal much damage -- his is a passive type of magic.

Trinsic has been invaded. There's no denying it now -- the walls have been breached. At the top of the screen, you can see the calls of the citizenry, begging for help, but the city guards were all dead.

Things quieted for a bit, and friends that survived met for some forced laughter. Trent was a shopkeeper that Worker had done a lot of business with; to become a Grandmaster Blacksmith, Worker needed access to rare and expensive metals with which to practice, and Trent was a good and steady supplier. It was just as odd seeing him here as it was seeing Worker.

This was just before the fall of Trinsic. Juo'nar herself was in the city walls, and no one could stop her. This view is from Rotten Spider, Jon's true warrior. Rotten tended to use the best magic gear that the guild had, and that wasn't shabby, either! Here, though, he knew better, and just used some guild-crafted pieces, knowing that death was a possibility. Juo'nar can be seen again in the bottom left, not even a quarter of her unlife taken away.

The aftermath

In the end, Trinsic fell. The citizenry were all killed, and the city became a lawless place. Undead continued to appear throughout the city, and it became almost routine for warriors to test their prowess in the streets of Trinsic, and for warriors to challenge other warriors there, for there were no city guards to prevent it. This was a sad day for the Schadenfreude Coven, for Trinsic was practically their home town.
