Tutorial 3

  • Tutorial slides can be found here.

I will be teaching two tutorials this week: Tuesday (since Bon will be attending a conference) and Friday.

In this tutorial, students will present steps 3 and 4 for their course project. Each group will have a maximum of 7 minutes to present, going beyond the time limit will cause the group to be cut off from the presentation. After the presentations, it will be your opportunity to ask questions regarding your project.

Each presentation will be graded in a scale from 0 to 100. This will then be converted to a scale from 0 to 4, corresponding to the grade in your assignment 1.

The evaluation criteria is the following:

  1. Improved Task (10%).
  2. Walkthrough (40%).
  3. Prototype (40%).
  4. Strong presentation style (10%).

Some things for you to watch out for:

  • Make sure that your user task shows what users do in their current environment, not what the software will do for them.
  • A task scenario is about having the user carry out the task through the interface you designed.
  • Make sure your walkthrough addresses problems with the interface.
  • Make sure your prototype encapsulates most functions that you promised last week.

  • It is important that before you perform the walkthrough, you recall the task that you introduced last week. If your task violated aspects of what a good task should be, make sure you fix it this time. Otherwise you will not be able to perform a good walkthrough, which may affect your assignment negatively in the future.
  • It is strongly recommended that you use storyboard method for your assignment and your presentation (similar to the one presented last tutorial). You want the TA's to be able to follow what your interface does and this is the best way to show that. I suggest you scan your interface and put it on your slides (follow last week's tutorial).
  • Arrive 5-10 minutes early to set up for the presentations.

The presentations will be in the following order (this order has been randomized):
