Research Projects at Nankai University
I was one of the first
to join lab work among the undergraduate students of the Department of
Computer, Nankai University. I affiliated the Nankai University Student
Chapter, Association for Computing Machinery during the year as a freshman,
attending a R&D group concentrating on XML. Later I became Vice President
of the Chapter and build up an e-business group. Then I, together with
the members of the e-business group, entered Intelligent Information
System and Technology Lab when I was a sophister. I have been working
in the lab
since then. So I have experiences in co-operating for an entire project
and managing a project. The projects I have attended are listed below:
Classification-based Spam Filtering – Undergraduate Thesis
My undergraduate thesis topic, Classification-based Spam Filtering,
was selected by myself, because I wanted to do something interesting
and useful for my
thesis. At that time, I found most e-mail filtering systems classify
e-mails only by some simple patterns such as particular sender
or subject. Thus
I wanted to create a method which can take the whole e-mail content
into account
to filter spam. I defined my own method to express an e-mail’s
characteristics into a vector, and then employ a neural network
to classify the e-mails
into two categories: spam and normal e-mails. The testing results
show that this
method achieves high accuracy. My thesis got the highest mark in my
grade.
“Nankai University Classroom Information Query System”
This project is consigned by the Provost’s office, Nankai University.
I was the leader and a major investigator of the project. This project implements
a WEB-based system that can provide real time information of classroom usage
in the campus. A user can query by classroom number, time and teacher’s
name. The system is applied in the Main Building of Nankai University,
providing a touch screen interface.
An prototype of intelligent information push system
This project is a collaborative project between Nankai University
and T&S
(Beijing) Network Technology Co., Ltd. I was a major investigator and took
the work of system developing and debugging. This system is developed for
the T&S (Beijing) Network Technology Co., Ltd’s servers (T&S
Serials). The push system can automatically supply articles to users. It
monitors users’ behaviours to obtain users’ interests
in different types of articles and adjust the ratio of each
type of articles pushed
to the user according to the user interest information the
system gets.
I have completed a paper on this system, with the title A User-Interest-Based
Intelligent System for Information Push.
An e-business project named “WEBook”
This project is accomplished by the e-business group of the
Nankai University Student Chapter, Association for Computing
Machinery.
I was the leader
of the group and have done majority of all work in the
project. This project
implements an e-business system based on Java technology,
using IBM WebSphere as the application server. We have new ideas
of associating a lot of
booksellers together, using some linear programming algorithms
in the
system to offer
efficient goods flow.
This project was awarded First Prize in the 2nd Huawei
Science and Technology Festival of Nankai University, 2000.
And later
in 2001
it was awarded
Third Prize in the 7th “Challenge Cup” National
Academic, Science and Technology Works Competition for
College Students.
