Interests My Other Interests
In my free time, I enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Canadian Rockies, read literature, write and translate poetry, and take part in theatre plays. My last role was the Good Fairy in the Christmas production of The Wizard of Oz staged at CPSC Department. But most of all, I enjoy discovering the world for the second time with my two sons: Andrei and Artemy.
Selected quotations I find wisdom in: Three grand essentials to happiness in this life are something to do,
something to love, and something to hope for. Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts
can be counted. Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing left to add, but when
there is nothing left to take away. In dreams and in love there are no impossibilities. We are more than the sum of our knowledge, we are the products of our
imagination. No man means all he says, and yet very few say all they mean, for words
are slippery and thought is viscous. Among those whom I like or admire, I can find no common denominator; but
among those whom I love, I can: all of them can make me laugh. There are only two tragedies in life: one is not getting what one wants,
and the other is getting it. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one. Common sense is the collection of prejudices acquired by age eighteen.
The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own
reason for existing. Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex and more
violent. It takes a touch of genius - and a lot of courage - to move in the
opposite direction. Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm
not sure about the former. Everyone hears what you say, Friends listen to what you say, Best Friends
listen to what you don't say. A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out. A true friend is one who overlooks your failures and tolerates your
successes. A great many people think they are thinking when they are merely
rearranging their prejudices. Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The
latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to
hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence.
