11-29-05

If you are working on Assignment 5 and don't have access to a Solaris machine, you will encounter an endianness error when running the Calibration.py script. The files linked below have been recompiled for x86:

Replace the original files from the tarball with these ones to run the script on an x86/Linux box.

You will also have to update the Python path in the Calibration.py script to make it executable. Replace the path in the first line

#!/usr/local/python/2.2.1/bin/python
with whatever path is returned by
$> which python
/usr/bin/python

09-19-05 Important Tutorial Information:
  • Tut 01 run every Monday and Wednesday at 1500h in ENF334. TA: Luke Olsen

  • Tut 02 runs every Tuesday and Thursday at 1300h in ENA235. TA: Michael Zhang

  • No tutorials will be held on holidays.

  • Tutorials will be Q & A style. The nature of the course makes it difficult to prepare material that is relevant to everyone.

  • Help is available outside of tutorials in three ways:

    1. Send a question via email.

    2. Arrange a meeting (usually in the UG lab) via email.

    3. During Luke Olsen's CT hours: TR 0900-1100h. As this is a general help resource, priority will not be given to 535 students.

Submission Procedure

  • Submit all assignment deliverables (code, write-up, etc.) via email.

    - Students registered in Tut01 submit to olsenl at cpsc ...

    - Students registered in Tut02 submit to mzhang at cpsc ...

    - Graduate students may submit to either TA; marking will be split between us

  • Please tar/zip all of your submission files together. Do not include any directory structure in the archive.

  • Assignments must be received by the appropriate deadline (loose as they are). Late assignments will not be marked.

  • Your code must run without errors in the version of Octave installed on the UG lab machines (2.1.xx).

  • Write-up must be in one of the following formats: Word (.doc), PDF (.pdf), or OpenOffice Writer (.svw). You must include your student ID somewhere in the document.

The write-up is more than a simple file manifest. It should include a discussion of your approach to the assignment, including algorithms and/or code snippets. Where applicable, it should include all relevant results (images, numerical results, etc.) embedded in the file.

  • Please set the Subject of your email to "535 <A#> Submission".

  • Grades will be posted... when they are posted ;). Turn-around time should be approximately one week.
