For the final slide of my PhD defense talk I prepared a visualization of my co-authorship network using the NodeTrix tool I adapted for one of my studies (then renamed CoCoNutTrix for Co-located Collaborative Nodetrix).
The dataset includes all papers/posters/demos/techreports/journal articles/book chapters that I have ever written.
Here is the picture and it's time again to thank all my wonderful co-authors over the years. It's been great fun to collaborate with so many different people at all the different places I visited.

It's done! The defense yesterday went smoothly - despite a few incidences (ask me about those in person). Here are two pictures from right after:

Sheelagh (my supervisor) got to announce the good news!

They made me a hat!!! :D Very awesome! It has a table, 2 people, a graveyard, and a bunch of proteins on it. The graveyard comes from a dataset I was using in some of my studies on the "Causes of Death" in the US. The proteins are from a different dataset I was using.
More pictures to come later. After my defense we went to see two interesting talks by
Colin Ware, my external examiner and a famous person in my area - and
Ken Perlin - a super famous guy in computer graphics who was visiting before the
ACM Tabletop conference starts on Monday in Banff. The day ended with dinner with the celebrities - fun times :). Tomorrow I'm off to the Banff Springs Hotel for the conference as well... what a great place to relax from defense prep.

My thesis just got submitted to my committee. The next hurdle is taken - the next is the actual defense and then the corrections and then it will hopefully be done soon. Press your thumbs for me on Nov. 20th. or come along for the defense if you feel like it (11am). Since I don't want to make anyone read all the 200++ pages of my thesis, here is a Wordle of what words I have been typing all over...
