March 24 - Term Test 2 (Monday, Mar 31 from 18:00 - 19:30 in ENA 103) will cover all material up to and including the lecture on Monday, March 24. The
focus will be on the material covered after the first term test, but you may
be expected to be able to apply concepts (eg. asymptotic analysis and
correctness proofs) from the first part of the course.

March 7 - Although not stated explicitly in the Assignment 3 specifications,
in order to receive full credit, the insert and delete operations of your
extended red-black tree should run in time O(h) where h is the height of
the tree. Partial credit will be given for solutions where the heights
are updated in time O(n).
March 7 - The deadline for Assignment 3 has been extended to
Wednesday, March 19 at 4:30 PM.
March 7 - A revised version of the model solutions for assignment 2
are available on the
"Assigment 2" page. This version
contains a corrected version of the validate function in both the pdf file
and the BSTMap.java file. The BSTMapTester.java file also contains test
cases for validate for your reference.

You can pick up your graded tests during the labs this week. Concerns about the grading should be addressed directly to Prof. Jacobson.
Feb 27 - If you received half credit for your programming questions
on Assignment 1 because they didn't compile on our linux servers or the
1st floor lab in Math Sciences, you may submit a version that does compile
by 4:30 PM, Thursday, February 28. Please send your revised code to
Isheeta (inargis@ucalgary.ca) and cc to me (jacobs@cpsc.ucalgary.ca).
The TA will use javac to compile your code, so make sure that
your code does compile with this.
Feb 27 - The

has been updated with a description of the compilation and testing
procedure that the TAs will use when evaluating your submitted java
code.
Feb 22 - Model solutions to Assignment 1 are available on the

be asked to produce Java code on either term test, but some will be requied
on the final exam.

Feb 4 - On Assignment 1, the exceptions that should be thrown should all
be capitalized and end with "Exception" to conform to standard naming
conventions. For example, "integerOverflow" should be "IntegerOverflowException".
Feb 4 - A sample Java program illustrating the use of file input is available through the
"Assigment 1" page. Further
information, including the use of file i/o and exception handling, can be found
in the references listed on the
"CS Background" page. Chapter 1 of
Reference 3 (Carrano and Prichard, available on reserve in the library) in
particular is a short overview of Java that should be helpful.
