I’m faculty at the University of Calgary’s Computer Science Department since October 2004. I’m running the uTouch research group and am a member of the Interactions Lab, together with Dr. Elaine Huang, Dr. Sheelagh Carpendale, Dr. Saul Greenberg, and around 30 other researchers. My current research interests are directed at interaction with physical objects and entities: human-robot interaction, tangible user interfaces, mixed reality and computer game interfaces.

Between August 2003 and September 2004 I was an Assistant Professor with the Human Interface Engineering Laboratory at Osaka University Japan, directed by Dr. Fumio Kishino. My work was mentored and inspired by Dr. Yoshifumi Kitamura.  Here is a link to my Osakan web page.

I completed my Ph.D. in Computing Science in July 2003 at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. My research was guided and inspired by the kind supervision of Dr. Ben Watson and Dr. Jonathan Schaeffer. The title of my dissertation was “Blurring the Boundaries—Spatial Tangible User Interfaces for Cognitive Assessment”.

I received my M.Sc. in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 1997 from Ben-Gurion University, Israel (Magna Cum Laude). My dissertation title was “Optical Estimation of Burn Wound Depth”, my work was supervised by Dr. Jonathan Molcho.

My B.Sc. in Electrical and Computer Engineering is also from Ben-Gurion University, Israel (1990). The title of my senior year project was “Non Invasive Electro-Optical Bilirubin Meter (Automatic Infant Jaundice Probe)”, supervised by Dr. Jonathan Molcho.

Between 1991 and 1998 I worked as a senior researcher and research director with several Israeli R&D labs. My main research themes during this period were image processing, computer vision and tracking algorithms, electro-optical design, numerical simulation, and user studies.

I am married to Amira, father to Noga, Naomi and Inbal.
