CPSC 641: Performance Issues in High Speed Networks

Professor Carey Williamson

Winter 2020

Assignments

CPSC 641 will have two equally-weighted assignments. Each assignment will be graded on a percentage scale. In aggregate, the assignments count 30% toward your final grade in CPSC 641.

Assignments are to be done individually. The assignments will take place in the first half of the course, to provide experience with networking research methods, and to avoid interfering with class presentations or course projects.

Completed assignments are to be submitted in hardcopy form to your instructor on or before the stated deadline. Assignments will be graded and returned to you within one week.

Assignment 1: Holy Craps! (30 marks)

Assignment 1 will provide some practice with the methods of computer systems performance evaluation, namely experimental measurement, mathematical analysis, and simulation modeling. It is due Thursday, January 30 at 11:59pm.

Assignment 2: Network Traffic Analysis (30 marks)

Assignment 2 will require writing some programs or scripts to process some empirical network traffic datasets, and produce some graphs and statistics summarizing the results. It is due Thursday, February 13 at 11:59pm.
