The Kananaskis Field Stations (KFS) is an institute of the University of Calgary, consisting of two facilities, the Barrier Lake Station (built in 1966) located in the Kananaskis Valley 80 km west of campus and the R.B. Miller Station (built in 1950) in the Sheep River Wildlife Sanctuary 110 km southwest of the main campus. The mandate of the Kananaskis Field Stations is to provide research and education facilities to the University of Calgary faculties or institutes, other universities, government agencies, private sector research, schools and other educational groups with regards to ecosystem studies within the Canadian Rockies and Foothills ecoregions.
