Travel Information

This page provides basic travel information on how to get to Calgary, as well as to the hotel, where the meeting will take place.

Getting to Calgary

The most obvious way to get to Calgary is by air. Calgary International Airport (YYC) is a major hub in western Canada, with numerous connections and direct flights available from across the country. Domestic air carriers include Air Canada, Air Canada/Jazz, and WestJet. Many US airlines fly to Calgary as well, if you happen to be connecting from elsewhere.

Some airlines might make you connect through either Toronto or Vancouver. Flying time from Toronto to Calgary is approximately 4 hours, while Vancouver to Calgary is approximately 1 hour. For the adventurous, you can try an outrageously expensive Rocky Mountaineer train trip between Vancouver and Calgary, for a spectacular Rocky Mountain experience (seasonal operation only).

Getting to the Hotel

After arriving at the Calgary International Airport, the easiest way to get to the hotel is by taxi. Ask for the Best Western Village Park Inn in the "motel village" next to the University of Calgary (U of C) campus. Taxis should take 25-40 minutes, depending on traffic, and cost about $35-40 CDN. Credit cards accepted.

If you are renting a car, here are simple driving directions. From the airport, take Barlow Trail northbound (left) at the first traffic light, and then Airport Trail westbound (from the leftmost lanes) shortly thereafter. Continue on Airport Trail until you reach the onramp for Deerfoot Trail southbound (a left at the lights). Follow Deerfoot until you find 16th Avenue North (also known as Trans-Canada Highway 1). Turn right (west) onto 16th Avenue, and follow it for quite a while (10-15 minutes). Street numbers will count down as you traverse the NE quadrant of the city, and then count up again after you cross Centre Street and enter the NW quadrant of the city. Keep going. The exit you want is called Banff Trail. It will be the traffic lights shortly after 19th Street NW. (There is a pedestrian overpass just before the exit.) Take Banff Trail to the right, and then a very quick and tight left turn onto a little service road that loops around the motel village. Follow the service road for about a minute or so. Once it turns a sharp right, the hotel will be just ahead and on your right: Best Western Village Park Inn, 1804 Crowchild Trail NW. Park anywhere outside for free, or enter the underground parkade (the door opens automatically as you go down the steep ramp).

If you are driving in from other nearby locations, then the main thoroughfares to look for are 16th Avenue NW (a street also known as Trans-Canada Highway 1) and Crowchild Trail NW. The hotel is approximately at the juxtaposition of these two roads. For example, if you are traveling northbound on Crowchild, then the hotel will be immediately on your right after taking the underpass beneath 16th Avenue NW.
